Compare the2025 BMW X4VS 2025 Porsche Cayenne Coupe

2025 BMW X4
2025 Porsche Cayenne Coupe

Safety

The X4 has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the X4 and the Cayenne Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the X4 for 2 years and 26000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Cayenne Coupe (3/36,000 vs. 1/10,000).

There are over 73 percent more BMW dealers than there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the X4’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the X4 first among compact premium suvs in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The Cayenne Coupe was rated second in its category.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the X4 gets better mileage than the Cayenne Coupe running its gasoline engine:

2.0 turbo 4-cyl.

Tires and Wheels

The X4’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Cayenne Coupe’s standard 55 series front tires.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the X4 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Chassis

The BMW X4 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 1300 pounds less than the Porsche Cayenne Coupe.

The X4 is 6.5 inches shorter than the Cayenne Turbo GT, making the X4 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the X4’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Payload

The X4 has a higher standard payload capacity than the Cayenne Coupe (957 vs. 853 lbs.).

Ergonomics

The X4 offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

If the windows are left open on the X4 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote or with the driver’s door power window switch. The driver of the Cayenne Coupe can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Economic Advantages

Insurance will cost less for the X4 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the X4 will cost $3850 to $11130 less than the Cayenne Coupe over a five-year period.

Recommendations

J.D. Power and Associates rated the X4 first among compact premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Cayenne Coupe isn’t in the top three in its category.
