The XM’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The VF 9 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the XM are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The VF 9 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the XM’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The VF 9 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the XM and VF 9 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the XM has Cross Traffic Warning with braking function (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The VF 9’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the XM and the VF 9 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The XM’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the VF 9’s (12/unlimited vs. 10/125000).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the XM for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. VinFast doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the VF 9.

There are almost 10 times as many BMW dealers as there are VinFast dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the XM’s warranty.

The XM’s 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 336 more horsepower (738 vs. 402) and 281 lbs.-ft. more torque (738 vs. 457) than the VF 9’s electric motors.

The XM Label’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 339 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The VF 9’s range is only 291 to 330 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 35 minutes for only a 70% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 15 hours.

The XM’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The VF 9 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction and acceleration, the XM has larger rear tires than the VF 9 (315/30R23 vs. 275/45R20). The XM’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the VF 9 (315/30R23 vs. 285/35R22).

The XM’s standard 275/40R22 front and 315/35R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the VF 9’s standard 45 series tires. The XM’s 315/30R23 rear tires have a lower 30 series profile than the VF 9’s optional 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XM has standard 22-inch wheels. Smaller 20-inch wheels are standard on the VF 9. The XM’s 23-inch wheels are larger than the 22-inch wheels optional on the VF 9.

The XM has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The VF 9 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The XM offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. VinFast doesn’t offer an active suspension on the VF 9.

The XM has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The VF 9’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For greater off-road capability the XM has a 1.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the VF 9 (8.7 vs. 7.4 inches), allowing the XM to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The BMW XM may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 450 pounds less than the VinFast VF 9.

The front grille of the XM uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The VF 9 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The XM’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the VF 9’s (5952 vs. 3968 pounds).

Standard Trailer Stabilization Control on the XM uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The VF 9 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the VF 9 Plus, the XM has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the XM to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The VF 9 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The VF 9 Plus’ cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The XM’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

The BMW XM has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. VinFast charges extra for Homelink® on the VF 9.

The XM is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access to more content and better coverage than the VF 9, which solely provides FM radio. With AM radio, you can enjoy a wider variety of stations featuring news, talk shows, sports commentary, native language programing, automated traffic guidance, and emergency broadcasts. AM waves travel further and penetrate buildings and obstacles more effectively than FM signals, especially at night. Having both FM and AM stereo radios the XM offers a more comprehensive listening experience compared to only FM in the VF 9.

HD Radio boasts several benefits over conventional radio: superior sound quality with clearer and consistent FM broadcasts, CD-quality audio, and Multicast Channels offering up to four streams from a single station, adding programming choices. Cars like the XM equipped with HD Radio provide an improved in-car entertainment experience. The VF 9, devoid of this technology, foregoes these benefits. Selecting the BMW XM empowers drivers to enjoy a more immersive and enjoyable listening experience while on the go.
