Compare the2026 BMW X6 MVS 2025 Porsche Cayenne Coupe

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the X6 M are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The X6 M has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the BMW X6 M achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Porsche Cayenne Coupe has not been tested.

Both the X6 M and the Cayenne Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the X6 M for 2 years and 26000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Cayenne Coupe (3/36,000 vs. 1/10,000).

There are over 73 percent more BMW dealers than there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the X6 M’s warranty.

The X6 M’s 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 269 more horsepower (617 vs. 348) and 185 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 368) than the Cayenne Coupe’s standard 3.0 turbo V6. The X6 M’s 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 154 more horsepower (617 vs. 463) and 74 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 479) than the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid. The X6 M’s 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid produces 149 more horsepower (617 vs. 468) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 442) than the Cayenne S Coupe’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

The X6 M has 3.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Cayenne Coupe E-Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (21.9 vs. 18.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the BMW X6 M higher (4 out of 10) than the Porsche Cayenne Coupe (2 to 4). This means the X6 M produces up to 15.6 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Cayenne Coupe every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the X6 M has larger tires than the Cayenne Coupe (F:295/35R21 & R:315/30R22 vs. F:255/55R20 & R:295/45R20). The X6 M’s front tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Cayenne Coupe (F:295/35R21 & R:315/30R22 vs. F:285/45R21 & R:315/40R21).

The X6 M’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Cayenne Coupe’s standard 55 series front and 45 series rear tires. The X6 M’s 295/35R21 front and 315/30R22 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Cayenne Coupe’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the X6 M has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 20-inch wheels are standard on the Cayenne Coupe.

The front and rear suspension of the X6 M uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Cayenne Coupe, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the X6 M’s wheelbase is 3 inches longer than on the Cayenne Coupe (117 inches vs. 114 inches).

The X6 M’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51.6% to 48.4%) than the Cayenne Coupe’s (56.8% to 43.2%). This gives the X6 M more stable handling and braking.

For greater off-road capability the X6 M has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe (8.4 vs. 8.2 inches), allowing the X6 M to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The X6 M has 1.1 inches more front headroom, .9 inches more front shoulder room and 1.2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Cayenne Coupe.

The X6 M has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Cayenne Coupe with its rear seat up (27.4 vs. 20.9 cubic feet). The X6 M has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Cayenne Coupe with its rear seat folded (59.6 vs. 53 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the X6 M’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

The X6 M’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Cayenne Coupe’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

The X6 M has a higher standard payload capacity than the Cayenne Coupe (1025 vs. 853 lbs.).

The X6 M has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

If the windows are left open on the X6 M the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Cayenne Coupe can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The X6 M’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Cayenne Coupe’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the X6 M has standard extendable sun visors. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer extendable visors.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the X6 M first among upper midsize premium SUVs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Cayenne Coupe was rated second.
