Compare the2025 BMW i7VS 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre

2025 BMW i7
2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre

Safety

The i7’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Spectre doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the i7 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Spectre doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The i7 has standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Spectre doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The i7 has a standard Active Park Distance Control that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Spectre doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the i7 and Spectre have rear cross-traffic warning, but the i7 has Cross Traffic Warning with braking function (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Spectre’s Cross Traffic Warning doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the i7 and the Spectre have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The i7’s corrosion warranty is 8 years longer than the Spectre’s (12 vs. 4 years).

There are over 9 times as many BMW dealers as there are Rolls-Royce dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the i7’s warranty.

Engine

The i7 M70’s standard electric motors produces 73 more horsepower (650 vs. 577) and 147 lbs.-ft. more torque (811 vs. 664) than the Spectre’s electric motors.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the i7 gets better mileage than the Spectre:

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the i7’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the Spectre’s (40.4 feet vs. 41.7 feet).

Chassis

The BMW i7 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 750 pounds less than the Rolls-Royce Spectre.

The i7 is 3.4 inches shorter than the Spectre, making the i7 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the i7 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Spectre doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the i7 a Large car, while the Spectre is rated a Compact.

The i7 has standard seating for 5 passengers; the Spectre can only carry 4.

The i7 has 16 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Spectre (112 vs. 96).

Ergonomics

The i7 has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, warning, navigation instruction and incoming text message readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Spectre doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The i7 has two rear doors to provide better access for cargo and rear passengers. The Spectre doesn’t offer rear doors.

The i7’s Parking Assistant can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote Control will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Spectre’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

Model Availability

The i7 is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The Spectre doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
