The iX’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The VF 9 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the iX and VF 9 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the iX has Cross Traffic Warning with braking function (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The VF 9’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the iX and the VF 9 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The iX’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the VF 9’s (12/unlimited vs. 10/125000).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the iX for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. VinFast doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the VF 9.

There are over 87 times as many BMW dealers as there are VinFast dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the iX’s warranty.

The iX xDrive50’s standard electric motors produces 114 more horsepower (516 vs. 402) and 107 lbs.-ft. more torque (564 vs. 457) than the VF 9’s electric motors. The iX M60’s standard electric motors produces 208 more horsepower (610 vs. 402) and 354 lbs.-ft. more torque (811 vs. 457) than the VF 9’s electric motors.

The iX M60’s launch control uses engine electronics in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The VF 9 doesn’t offer launch control.

The iX offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The VF 9’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The iX has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The iX’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The VF 9 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For greater off-road capability the iX has a 1.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the VF 9 (8.7 vs. 7.4 inches), allowing the iX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The BMW iX may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 750 pounds less than the VinFast VF 9.

The iX is 6.5 inches shorter than the VF 9, making the iX easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the iX uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The VF 9 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The iX’s standard Comfort Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Passive Entry standard on the VF 9 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

Laser headlights, optional on the iX, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the VF 9’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

The VF 9 Plus’ cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The iX’s optional adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

The BMW iX has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. VinFast charges extra for Homelink® on the VF 9.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the iX first among upper midsize premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The VF 9 isn’t in the top three.

The BMW iX outsold the VinFast VF 9 by over 39 to one during 2024.
