The iX’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Polestar 4 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the iX. But it costs extra on the Polestar 4.

Both the iX and the Polestar 4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

There are over 11 times as many BMW dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the iX’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Polestar vehicles. With 110 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks BMW higher than Polestar.

The iX xDrive50’s standard electric motors produces 244 more horsepower (516 vs. 272) and 311 lbs.-ft. more torque (564 vs. 253) than the Polestar 4’s standard electric motor. The iX xDrive50’s electric motors produces 58 lbs.-ft. more torque (564 vs. 506) than the Polestar 4’s optional electric motors. The iX M60’s standard electric motors produces 66 more horsepower (610 vs. 544) and 305 lbs.-ft. more torque (811 vs. 506) than the Polestar 4’s optional electric motors.

For better traction, the iX’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Polestar 4 (275/40R22 vs. 265/40R22).

The iX has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The iX’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Polestar 4 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For greater off-road capability the iX has a 2.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Polestar 4 (8.7 vs. 6.5 inches), allowing the iX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The iX has 1.3 inches more front headroom, 1.6 inches more front shoulder room, 1.7 inches more rear headroom, 2.3 inches more rear legroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Polestar 4.

The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Polestar 4 with its rear seat up (35.5 vs. 18.6 cubic feet). The iX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Polestar 4 with its rear seat folded (77.9 vs. 54.2 cubic feet).

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the iX’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Polestar 4 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

A Condition-Based Service Display is standard on the iX to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for vehicle inspections, vehicle inspection based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Polestar doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Polestar 4.

The iX’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Polestar 4.

Laser headlights, optional on the iX, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the Polestar 4’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

The iX’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Polestar 4’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The iX has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Polestar 4.

Compared to the Polestar 4, the BMW iX eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its standard integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the rear view mirror.

The iX’s optional Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Parking Assistant Professional will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Polestar 4 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
